Story Chain

Group Size: 5–20 participants Duration: 10–15 minutes Materials: None

Objectives:

  • Develop creative thinking and imagination
  • Improve active listening skills
  • Strengthen turn-taking and group participation
  • Support expressive language use
  • Encourage collaborative communication

Instructions: Participants sit in a circle. The facilitator starts with a simple sentence. Each participant adds a part of the story in turn. Continue until the story ends naturally or time is up.

Adaptations for Neurodiversity:

  • Allow pass option
  • Allow single-word or short contributions
  • Provide visual theme support
  • Allow written participation
  • Keep strict turn-taking structure

Sensory and Safety Considerations: Low sensory load. Suitable for calm environments.

Facilitator Notes: Provide clear theme if needed (e.g. adventure, school day, journey).
